Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga
Directed by David Dobkin
(2020, European Broadcasting Union (EBU)/Gary Sanchez Productions/Gloria Sanchez Productions/Netflix/Truenorth Productions)
I don’t usually watch Will Ferrell movies anymore. What used to be fun and niche now always seems to be predictable and boring.
However, due to a friend’s recommendation, I watched “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”
What may be surprising here is that I’m not about to say that I was pleasantly surprised or that this changed my opinion on the modern day Will Ferrell.
What I will say is that this is a mindlessly fun Netflix movie that is easy to click play on and enjoy to a degree.
The saving grace of the film is Rachel McAdams, usually a dramatic/romantic actress who has a lot of fun in her role as Sigrit and you revel in her enjoyment of the performance.
Yes, there are a lot of sex jokes. Yes, there are a lot of Will Ferrell not getting a situation he could clearly understand. Yes, this absolutely didn’t need to be just over two hours.
But, if you’re looking for some easily digestible entertainment and you already have a Netflix subscription, it’s a fair choice.
